Sansevieria guineensis 'San Remo'

Robert Streul:
Sansevieria guineensis 'San Remo' is a rather strange plant with an equally strange second cultivar name 'Smoked Sausage'. However, 'San Remo' is to be considered the correct name since it was used before 'Smoked Sausage'. Originally found in a nursery in San Remo, Italy and then taken to the United States. The radical change this plant goes through from juvenile to adult stages is what fascinates any grower. The new growth is highly variegated with intense bright yellow edges and striations. As the leaf matures it gradually becomes dark green, and with age develops small brown raised spots which supports, as they say, the name 'Smoked Sausage'. I'm still trying to figure that out since I've yet to see smoked sausage with raised brown spots. This plant does not seem to present any great difficulty to grow, but warm dry conditions are preferred. That said, the plant in my collection is doing quite well in the steamy conditions of Florida.
